Warkworth Maple Syrup Festival: Winning Photos

The Photo Contest for the 2011 Warkworth Maple Syrup Festival had a lot of  good images  submitted – over 100. And viewers can see  the quality  of the entries  here. Thus , the judges had their work cut out for them. There were two categories for the images – Maple Syrup Festival Events and then  People Pictures. Here are the top five Maple Syrup Event photos with the photographers name  and a summary of what caught the judges eye.

Ray Clarke – there is a dramatic tension and attention throughout this shot of the sawing competition.

Lisa Lamka – one can see and hear the country guitar rhythms and tunes  echoing in this Sugarbush showtime photo.

Susan Abraham– sometimes you have to be lucky in shooting. But its more than luck, as Susan was out on the nature trail and caught  the approaching sleigh through the woods.

This is the Event Winner in the Photo Contest

Ray Clarke – wonderful lighting in this Sugarbush scene.

Susan Abraham –  with this photo one can see why Watership Down was such a popular book a few decades ago.

And now for the People Photos from the Maple Syrup Festival

Susan Abraham – has an eye for intimate  moments – would that one could do as well.

Zen Chabursky – this image catches a moment of fun and fascination for the kids.

Lisa Lamka –such a relaxed candid portrait. This photo is like being introduced to someone very graciously.

This is the People Winner in the Photo Contest

Zen Chabursky – the art of portraiture is the ability of the photographer to allow a subject to reveal themselves – the wry smile here is Mona Lisa good.

Ray Clarke – pictures from the Sugarbush Pancake Cookfest  have an echo theme, chefs having a good time. This portrait is bursting with good karma.

Again, a large thank you to all the photographers who entered our Warkworth Library Photo Contest. As you can see our selections had a decidedly people-orientation – and why not? The Warkworth Maple  Syrup Festival is a decidedly community  affair – and it shows in the photos. Finally, if you have a favorite photo please add your comments below and help us select the best Event and then the best People photos from the above finalists.

  1. Remarkablygood set of portraits … and there were some great sleigh, kidzoo, and sugarbush shots to choose from. All in all, a great photographic feast.

  2. As co-convenors of the Warkworth Maple Syrup Festival we would like to congratulate everyone who took the time to photograph the event. You captured so much of it – just amazing. Congratulations to Pix of Canada & JB Surveyer & Warkworth Public Library for hosting the contest and for making it possible for everyone to visually enjoy the event, even if they could not attend this year. This festival is truly a ‘community event’ and your efforts are greatly appreciated. Brenda Partridge & Carol Hamilton, Warkworth ON.
