Gallery Hop Preview: Terra Dolus Pottery

The Trent Hills Gallery Hop is coming up Saturday October 4th and Sunday the 5th. Given the quality of the Warkworth Fall Fair’s art content, it is  appropriate to do a preview of some of the artists who will be exhibiting during the Gallery as Trent Hills continues to burnish its artistic reputation.

Terra Dolus Pottery

Terrie Macdonald is a studio potter who works out of 321 Haig’s Reach Road in  Campbellford Ontario. Terrie has a BA from Queens University and a BFA from  Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She has done pottery work since 1998, taught pottery at Loyalist College in Belleville and has been a member of the Board at the Colborne Art Gallery. Terrie works with eartheware in her studio where she has 2 kilns and three wheels. Her style takes advantage of the glazing and fine finishing properties of earthenware:

As you can see Terrie is able to create lively colors, lines and texture in her pottery works – no small feat working with clay. One has to master a range of chemicals and glazes, their various effective firing temperatures and how to control  their mixing and final sheen. As seen in the slide show below this leads to a pleasing range of wheel and slab clay pottery pieces:

However, given that the high schools and colleges in Eastern Ontario no longer offer pottery courses, it is notable that Terrie and a group of other Northumberland potters are now offering workshops on a variety of pottery levels and methods.

Terrie offers pottery courses from March to the end of October. Her studio is furnished with three quality electric wheels, slab roller, two kilns, an extruder, loads of bright sun filled work space, and lots of hand tools for use. So when you make the Trent Hills Gallery Hop to Terra DolusPottery, you will be able to see not only Terrie’s pottery but where and how it is made.

Trenton High school offers a pottery course!! However, Terrie teaches great courses and and it’s great fun – and informative – to work in her studio.

  2. And the location is mighty fine in the summer; not to mention the great sculptures by Claus around the household. Definitely a Go To course for anyone interested in pottery.
